The British Film Director Andrew Kotting

Andrew Kotting, the British film director, was born some 53 years ago on December 6th in Bromley, Kent, England. He studied Fine Art and received a BA and a MA in Mixed Media. He is a unique, fearless, like no other, director. Andrew has been involved in directing and/or writing approximately 30 films. He first tried his hand at filmaking in 1986. Some of his films include the darkly funny “Smart Alek” which he wrote and directed in 1993. In 1996 he directed his first feature length movie “Gallivant”, which featured himself, his grandmother Gladys and daughter Eden who has Joubert’s Syndrome and whom can only speak in sign language. They travel around the coastline of mainland Britain, starting and finishing on the South Coast. One of his two 2001 films, “Filthy Earth”, which takes place in a rural community North of England, is a tragic story about 2 sisters lives who are intruded by men and events unravel that threaten their sisterly bond. In 2009 his movie “Ivul” was screened at the 53rd London Film Festival. “Ivul” is said to be a sad yet fantastical movie. It is a french film but with British tendencies. It is about a character named Alex who chooses to move out on the roof of the house because he is accused of abuse. The story unravels as such. The main character Alex is the only son in a house with 3 sisters. Alex’s father walks in on him while he is in a sexual circumstance with his sister which causes his dad to lose it and banish him. He watches externally as his family destroys itself by the mother beginning to drink and the father becoming bedridden. This movie stars actors such as Jean-Luc Bideau, Xavier Tchili, Jacob Auzanneau, Adlade Leroux, and Aurlia Petit.
